Dr Rebecca Devereux TCTSY-F, RYT, Ph.D. MSW, H.Dip Psyc. Studies, B.A. Int.

Rebecca’s relationship with movement and the body began at the age of 4 when she attended her first dance class. Movement was then to play a significant role in her life for 20 years. She completed senior level training with the Royal Academy of Dance and the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance before her curiosity and interest shifted towards the mind and human experience in context.

Her early 20’s focused on training and practice in clinical cognitive western based approaches to human stress and distress.

Having completed training in psychology and social work  Rebecca spent the next  15 years working alongside people who have experienced trauma and stress in their lives. However, she always felt that there was a vital connection missing in approaches offered to those seeking support. Her interests then turned to combining cognitive ‘top-down’ approaches with somatic based approaches and she was drawn towards the work of Peter Levine, Stephen Porges, Bessel Van Der Kolk and the work of the Center for Trauma and Embodiment led by David Emerson and Jenn Turner.

Rebecca trained in trauma informed yoga approaches with Hala Khouri, and Alex Cat (the Yoga Clinic), and completed a 300 hour certificate in Trauma Center, Trauma Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY) with the Centre for Trauma and Embodiment.  She is currently in her first year of training as a Somatic Experiencing (SE) Practitioner with SOS Internationale. SE is a pioneering body oriented approach to relieving the physical, psychological, emotional and physiological effects of acute and chronic stress and PTSD.

Rebecca offers therapeutic movement interventions for people who have experienced complex/relational trauma, single incident trauma and birth trauma. She works with people who experience complex and developmental trauma, emotional dysregulation, dissociation, derealisation, depersonalisation, body dysmorphia, substance use and self-injurious behaviours, depression, insomnia and anxiety.

As a registered RYT with the Yoga Alliance Rebecca is required to adhere to their standards of practice.

As a TCTSY-F she has undertaken 300 hours of training, and undergoes supervision for the ethics and quality of her practice through the Center for Trauma and Embodiment. Similarly she engages with group and individual supervision for SE practices with SOS Internationale.

Rebecca facilitates spaces for 1:1 and/or group practice both in person and via Zoom. Rebecca offers a sliding scale for all her practices. Please feel free to get in touch for an informal chat.
